National Express wins £860m Morocco contract

National Express bus company are to start operating in Casablanca, Morocco from November after signing a £860m up to 15-year contract.

The Spanish and Moroccan division of the bus firm, ALSA are to provide around 700 busses. The contract is to start in November seeing 400 busses in Casablanca and an additional 300 busses will hit the streets carrying 100m passengers each year.

In August National Express won a contract in the country’s capital, Rabat where the firm started running 400 buses.

Chief executive Dean Finch said, “This nearly doubles our presence in Morocco, which had already doubled in August with Rabat’s successful start-up.

“We will now operate more buses in Morocco than the UK. We look forward to serving the people of Casablanca soon.”

He added, “It is particularly pleasing that our track record for service excellence in Morocco was an important reason for our success.”
