Labour continues to hold a dominant lead over the Conservatives, according to the latest voting intention poll from Savanta.
The poll, conducted over the weekend before the spring budget (1-3 March) sees Labour holding on 44% of the vote, with the Conservatives on 27%, an increase of one point.
Shortly before the autumn statement in November 2023, the Conservatives were on 26% of the vote, based on Savanta’s research. The Chancellor announced a headline tax cut of 2% from national insurance, and the Conservatives vote share did not increase beyond 28% in the weeks that followed.
Chris Hopkins, Political Research Director at Savanta said, “The spring budget is one of the government’s last opportunities to convince the public that they’re worth voting for.
“The Prime Minister will be hoping for more success than the last Autumn Statement, which did little to turn the dial.”
