As their conference concludes, Labour now have their shortest odds of winning the most seats in the next general election since betting markets opened three years ago, with Keir Starmer’s party the 4/6 odds-on favourites to claim the most MPs at the next vote.

The Conservatives are out to 6/4 to secure the most seats in the next election and 7/2 to claim a majority, with Liz Truss’ party trailing by up to 17 points in some opinion polls.

2024 remains the 1/4 favourite to be the year of the next election, while 2023 is 9/2 and a vote this year is 33/1.

Betfair spokesperson Sam Rosbottom said, ”Punters are currently rushing to back Labour to win the most seats at the next general election and Keir Starmer’s party are now the 4/6 favourites to claim the most MPs in the next vote, their shortest odds in three years and a boost for the party as the conference concludes.

“A challenging start for Liz Truss’s premiership as Conservative leader means they trail Labour in most polls and the Tories are 6/4 to win the most seats and 7/2 to return a majority in the next general election, which is 1/4 to happen in 2024 or later.”
