Prime Minister Boris Johnson is to hold a press conference at 4pm today where he could be set to announce a four-week lockdown.
Johnson will be joined by chief medical officer for England Professor Chris Whitty and chief scientific adviser Sir Patrick Vallance.
Downing Street has confirmed that Johnson is to hold an emergency Cabinet meeting this afternoon to discuss the governments response to the ongoing pandemic.
The government’s scientific adviser Calum Semple told the BBC, “For the naysayers that don’t believe in a second wave, there is a second wave.
“And, unlike the first wave, where we had a national lockdown which protected huge swathes of society, this outbreak is now running riot across all age groups.”
