The Met Office has said that an “African plume” is set to hit the UK which will cause a heatwave and the temperatures could go as high as 35C.

Sweltering temperatures could hit at the end of this month and this weekend the UK will be basking in glorious weather according to meteorologists.

The Met Office long range weather forecast says that from 23 May to 1 June high pressure will bring a “good deal of fine and dry weather for the majority of areas.”

The Met Office long-range forecast reads, “A mostly dry and settled start to the period for southern parts of the UK, with sunny spells.

“Northern regions more likely to experience cloud and possible light showers, with potential for thicker cloud and rain in the far north-west.

“Predominantly settled conditions are likely as the period progresses, with sunny spells for England and Wales.

“Scotland and Northern Ireland likely to see cloudier conditions, accompanied with outbreaks of light rain.

“Into early June, an increasing chance of more unsettled weather in the south of the UK, with possible heavy showers or periods of rain.

“Winds generally light in southern areas of Britain across the period, but stronger across the north.

“Temperature likely above average for this time of year, though coastal regions may feel a little cooler.”
