The London Underground could come to a grinding halt this weekend as technicians responsible for the power at 270 underground stations could take industrial action.

According to Unite, technicians have threatened to walk out after midnight on Saturday and would return to work on Tuesday morning.

Workers are striking in protest over “broken promises, unfair treatment and worsening conditions”.

Unite’s Hugh Roberts said: “There is a real possibility that the Underground could close down over the bank holiday weekend.

“Unite is working very hard to achieve a fair settlement for our members – and to avoid the industrial action. The ball is very much in the management’s court.”
