Why did the Newcastle United owner change his mind?
Sports Direct boss Mike Ashley has finally agreed to appear before MPs in a bid defend the firm’s “good name”.
The news comes after Ashley repeatedly refused to appear before the Business, Innovation and Skills select committee to face grilling over working conditions at Sports Direct that’s embroiled in a zero-hours contracts scandal.
In a letter, Ashley said he had only refused to attend “to avoid a media circus” adding that he would not attend because his lawyer Richard Gordon QC, was unavailable.
