Romanian politician Calin Georgescu has said that Ukraine is a “fictional state” and warned it is “inevitable” that Romania will annex parts of the territory.
Far-right Georgescu who is pro-Vladimir Putin said that “100% it will happen that Romania will partition parts of Ukraine’s territories.
During an interview with journalist Ion Cristoiu, Georgescu said they will redraw Ukraine’s borders and claim territory as a result of the Russia-Ukraine war, the Kyiv Independent reports.
Georgescu said, “The path to something like this is inevitable. Ukraine is a fictional state… the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic.”
In Ukraine there is between 150,000 and 500,000 ethnic Romanians living on border regions, it is most likely these areas Georgescu could attempt to annex.
The far-right politician is the leading candidate and he has opposed supporting Ukraine and does not want grain from the country transiting through Romania.
