The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has warned the Trump administration against a hastily negotiated peace deal, as Ukraine will never accept a deal without being involved.

Zelensky told German media network ARD, “Everything that Russia and the U.S. can agree on – if they even want to agree on something – concerns their bilateral relations.

“They certainly cannot negotiate about our people and our lives. About an end to the war without us.”

Today negotiations are set to start with the US President Donald Trump’s administration and their Russian counterparts in Saudi Arabia.

President Zelensky said during a press conference in the UAE, “Ukraine knew nothing about it. And Ukraine considers any negotiations on Ukraine without Ukraine (as such) to be futile.”

Zelensky then said that Ukraine “will not give up” its territory for a permanent ceasefire, he also hit out at the US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth who warned it is unlikely Ukraine’s borders will be restored to 2014, as Moscow will not entertain this.

Zelensky said, “The U.S. is saying things today that are very pleasant for (Russian President Vladimir) Putin. I think that is the crux of the matter.

“Because they want to please him. Do you know why? To meet each other and to have a quick success.”

Zelensky advised Hegseth to “delve deeper into the details” and that he should allow “time for that.”

“Of course, we will reclaim everything. Respect for international law will return — if not today, then tomorrow,” Zelensky added.

The Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Monday there will be “no thought” of any territorial concessions to Ukraine.

Reuters reported that Lavrov said, “Territorial concessions to what is now called Ukraine were made by the Soviet leadership during the formation of the USSR.”

In 2024 Vladimir Putin said the only conditions for peace negotiations, will require Ukrainian troops to leave the occupied territories of Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Luhansk and Donetsk Oblasts.
