Vladimir Putin has ordered 135,000 men to be called up for conscription between October and December 2025 in one of the largest call-ups in almost ten years.

Men aged between 18 and 30 are being called up for routine conscription as battlefield losses continue to grow along the 1,000 kilometre front line.

Since Putin’s full-scale war against Ukraine started on 24 February 2022 more than 1.1million Russian troops have been either killed in action or wounded.

In the Spring Putin ordered 160,000 men of fighting age to be conscripted and in September the Russian military was expanded to 1.5 million, this makes the Russian Army one of the world’s largest.

On Monday the German Defence Minster Boris Pistorius said that Putin does not want a ceasefire or peace.

Pistorius said at the Warsaw Security Forum, “Diplomatic efforts fail to bring about any meaningful truce… Russia has even increased its attacks on Ukraine.

“All of this leaves no doubt: Vladimir Putin does not want a ceasefire, and he does not want peace for Ukraine.”
