No, Hackney has not declared support for Islamic State

It’s all innocent

Despite how it looks to some people, Hackney has not suddenly declared its support for IS.

The borough is instead declaring its support for fashion with the black flags with “IS” written on.

It’s part of the marketing campaign for a new shopping development which claims “HACKNEY IS FASHION”.

Alan Wolfson posted a picture to social media saying: “Hackney are draping banners around claiming it IS THE FASHION HUB.

“There’s no sign of the sequence of that sentence other than a solitary black flag with IS on it. Well done.”

So it seems, despite the furore, the flags have been a good marketing campaign after all.
