Russia is waging a war of attrition in Ukraine as they have failed to capture the capital, Kyiv and warned the conflict could escalate to a nuclear war.

Many cities and areas within Ukraine has been reduced to rubble with some place being wiped off the map.

The Kremlin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov was asked if Vladimir Putin will use nuclear weapons, he said Russia’s security policy states that they will use them if their existence is threatened.

Peskov told CNN, “If it is an existential threat for our country, then it (the nuclear arsenal) can be used in accordance with our concept.”

The Kremlin spokesman was then asked by CNN if Putin’s threats to use nuclear weapons is simply intended to send the world a message.

Peskov said, “President Putin intends to make the world listen to and understand our concerns.

“We’ve been trying to convey our concerns to the world, to Europe, to the United States for a couple of decades, but no one would listen to us.”

In February Putin said in a televised statement, “No matter who tries to stand in our way or all the more so create threats for our country and our people, they must know that Russia will respond immediately, and the consequences will be such as you have never seen in your entire history.”

The Russian President later said in a televised meeting with the Kremlin’s defence chiefs that “officials in leading NATO countries have allowed themselves to make aggressive comments about our country, therefore I hereby order the Minister of Defense and the chief of the General Staff to place the Russian Army Deterrence Force on combat alert.”
