Luxury retailer Harrods are closing their doors amid coronavirus

The luxury department store in Knightsbridge, London, have announced there will be closing its doors amid the coronavirus crisis.

Harrods will keep its food halls and pharmacy open to continue providing “essential services”, but the rest of the store will shut from 7pm on Friday.

Rishi Sunak, the new UK chancellor, will today announce an employment and wage subsidy package to safeguard millions of jobs.

It comes as business groups and union leaders brainstormed idea to protect jobs until late in the night.

The coronavirus pandemic has pushed millions of businesses, the engine of the UK economy, to the brink as revenues and profits are under pressure.
