Betfair spokesperson Sam Rosbottom said: “It’s one-way traffic on the betting markets for the next General Election, a Labour majority has been backed into 1/4 despite Chancellor Jeremy Hunt’s announcement of a cut to national insurance.

“Punters are predicting what some Tory rebels have called ‘an annihilation’ at the next election, with 201 or more seat losses being heavily backed into 4/5.

“While some Labour commentators have called on Rishi Sunak to call an election in May, it’s still November that punters favour at 6/1. May has seen some backing though and isn’t too far off at 7/2.”
