Ex Met detective warns we may see ‘troops on the streets’ as he sees rioting ‘escalating’

4th Aug 24 3:30 pm

A former Metropolitan police detective has warned that he sees the protests and riots “escalating and spreading” to other parts of the UK.

Peter Bleksley warned that should the riots go “beyond the capabilities” of the police this could then lead to the “unfortunate sight” of soldiers being deployed “on the streets of Britain.”

Protests started on Tuesday in Southport following three young girls being stabbed to death, rioting has now spread across towns and cities in the UK.

Thousands of people are protesting and there has been some serious violence seen on the streets and protesters have clashed with the police and more than 100 arrests have been made.

Speaking to GB News the former Met detective said, “If you pick up a brick or a bottle and throw it at a police officer, you are an idiot. End of story.

“Something quite dramatic is going to have to happen here because I see no sign of this unrest ending.

“I see this escalating and spreading. It concerns me because if it goes beyond the capabilities of the police, will we have to face the unfortunate sight of troops on the streets of Britain?”

The Home Secretary Yvette Cooper has warned protesters if they commit any crime there will be action, but Bleksley has said the criminal justice system is in “crisis.”

He told GB News, “One of the first things Labour announced was letting thousands out of prison.

“Will those thousands merely be replaced by those chucking bricks and bottles at the police? We shall have to see.

“We have to question politicians.

“They bear a huge amount of responsibility for getting the nation to this point where so many feel frustrated.

“I’m not condoning this in any shape or form.

“ So many are concerned about the rise of Islam and unfettered immigration, so they are going out onto the streets and causing mayhem.”
