The Prime Minister Boris Johnson has warned that Russia could launch a full scale invasion of Ukraine “as early as the 48 hours.”

Johnson said a Russian invasion is imminent and said the situation is “extremely concerning,” whilst Downing Street announced there is a “grave possibility” of an attack this week.

He said the UK must be ready to impose “very, very severe” economic consequences on Russia in an attempt to prevent an invasion.

The British Prime Minister called for the West to “stand together” and we cannot “trade away” Ukraine’s right to join NATO.

Johnson said the situation is “very, very dangerous” in the Ukraine now and warned Vladimir Putin “We are on the edge of a precipice but there is still time for President Putin to step back.”

If Russia does invade then this would be a “disastrous mistake” which will be “disastrous for Russia.”

Sir Keir Starmer has called on the government to “go further” by imposing tougher sanctions on Russia.

The Labour leader said he would “like to see the government go further” and for Russia to understand the threat to be “very real” if they attack Ukraine.

Sir Keir said that he does support the government and the Ukraine’s sovereignty of Ukraine and added that “Russia wants to see our allies divided, division in the United Kingdom. We are not going to divide.”

The Labour leader said that Parliament should be recalled if the invasion happens.

He told reporters during a trip to Sunderland, “I’m sure the government would do that anyway, because we must have a swift and strong response, a united response, from the United Kingdom and a united response with our allies.”
