John Griffin, founder of the £200m minicab firm Addison Lee, told his drivers to use bus lanes and has promised to “indemnify any fines” they incur.

Speaking to LondonlovesBusiness.com, Griffin said: “Monopoly of the black taxi industry is illegal. I think the minicab industry should get the same privileges as them [black taxi industry].

“It’s unfair to our business and unfair to our customers. It’s like saying that McDonalds can be allowed on the high street and Burger King should be off it.

“It’s a pity that I have to remind TfL that it is a body for transport in London and not just the black taxi industry.”

TfL has warned that it will take action against any Addison Lee minicab using the bus lane.
