Trump confirms there is no survivors of American Airlines crash

The US President Donald Trump has confirmed on Thursday afternoon that following the mid-air collision between a US military Blackhawk helicopter and a passenger plane, there is no survivors.

A US military Black Hawk helicopter and an American Airlines passenger plane collided mid-air in Washington DC.

This happened on Wednesday evening at 10pm local time and the crash site is on the Potomac River close to the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.

A US official said that three soldiers were on board the helicopter which was on a routine training flight and the American Airlines plane had 60 passengers and four crew on board.

President Trump said this is an โ€œhour of anguish for out nationโ€ which is a โ€œreal tragedy,โ€ adding that a “massive search and rescue operation” was under way, this has sadly turned into a recovery missions.

He confirmed, “Sadly there are no survivors.

“As one nation we grieve for every precious soul that has been taken from us so suddenly.”

Trump said this tragedy has โ€œreally shaken a lot of peopleโ€ even those from foreign countries that had their citizens onboard.

“We do not know what led to this crash but we have some very strong opinions and ideas,” Trump said.

Melania Trump said on X, โ€œMy heart goes out to those impacted by last nightโ€™s terrible tragedy. I pray for those who so sadly lost their lives, their families & loved ones, & the first responders who have worked tirelessly through the night. May they find strength and solace in this difficult time.โ€

Washington DC Mayor Muriel Bowser wrote on X: โ€œTonight, as our first responders continue their efforts, we are sending our love and prayers to the families, loved ones, and communities who are experiencing loss during this terrible tragedy.โ€

American Airlines CEO Robert Isom said in a video statement: โ€œWeโ€™re cooperating with the National Transportation Safety Board in its investigation and will continue to provide all the information we can.โ€
