The Transport Secretary, Grant Shapps could be set to announce a relaxing of the 14-day travel quarantine to allow families to visit their family abroad.

By mid-December the 14-day quarantine period could be relaxed for those returning from high-risk areas according to The Telegraph.

The “test and release” scheme could help returning holidaymakers out of quarantine as soon as they receive a negative test result which can return within less than hour through the fast turn-around tests.

A Whitehall source told the Daily Mail newspaper, “We are keen to get people flying again when it is safe to do so, and the Prime Minister is particularly concerned about the impact we have seen on business travel.

“Cutting the quarantine time from 14-days to five has the potential to make a huge difference.”
