London-based Black Swan Data has just been named Britainโs fastest-growing start-up.
The company crunches numbers and comes up with algorithms to analyse data such as the weather, social media and consumer feedback. Founder and chief executive Steve King, 41, raised ยฃ2.5m from private equity firm Blackstone to set up the firm in 2011, and sales reached ยฃ8.4m this year.
The company took top spot in the inaugural Sunday Times Sage Start-up Track 15, which shines a spotlight on some of Britainโs fastest-growing start-ups.
Other companies on the table include fresh coffee delivery service Pact, popcorn maker Propercorn and online fashion retailer Pink Boutique.
All 15 start-ups have enjoyed spectacular rates of growth, with their average annual sales rates over the last two years ranging from 194% to 597% a year, to a combined total of ยฃ85m. Together they employ 1,330 people, led by currency transfer specialist TransferWise, which has 400 staff.
