TfL criticised over their poor communication during the power outage

A watchdog has criticised Transport for London (TfL) over their poor communication during Mondayโ€™s power outage which cause havoc for commuters.

London Travel Watch (LTW) said that TfL must do โ€œmuch betterโ€ in communicating to โ€œmillions of peopleโ€ who rely on their services when things go wrong.

On Monday afternoon a fault on National Gridโ€™s transmission network caused cancellations and disruptions for many Tube lines across the capital.

LTW said in a statement, โ€œWhile incidents such as these are unpredictable, it was disappointing to see the lack of information and updates on TfLโ€™s own social media feeds, particularly as other train operators were keeping passengers updated.

โ€œIncreased traffic to the TfL website also saw the site crashing and becoming unresponsive.

โ€œWe accept that incidents like this can occur but do expect TfL to do much better when it comes to communicating with the millions of people who are reliant on their services.

โ€œDirecting all passengers to their website is not practical if the site then crashes, and people need to receive up-to-date information in order to continue their journeys with the least disruption.

โ€œPassengers also need reassurance that public transport services will be more resilient in future to incidents such as this.โ€
