Facebook is planning to launch a smartphone with a traditional touchscreen and a touchpad along the side of the device.
According to tech blog Patent Bolt, the Facebook smartphone will have a touch pad mounted on the side which will allow the user to control the device by tapping the screen. The phone will also have a gesture recognition library that “can interpret the user’s touch input and identify the touch input corresponding to a tap event”.

The patent applications have a flowchart describing how a series of taps could be used to access photos, specific friends or news feed content.
The screen of the phone is much like the iPhone 5 screen and comes with a home button.
