After half-term school children will ordered to wear face masks due to the alarming soaring cases in teenagers.

Ministers are concerned with the high case rates across England and in schools and local public health directors are allowed to re-introduce the measures.

The Sun has reported that government Ministers believe that by re-introducing the mandatory wearing of face masks in communal areas might be enough to hold down infections across communities to prevent more “draconian measures” being imposed.

The Education Secretary Nadhim Zahawi confirmed earlier this month that the wearing of face masks are one measure that MPs could return to.

The Daily Telegraph reported that more than 1.1m children across 3,250 schools in 17 local authorities in England are recommending tougher measures as regional leaders are taking matter into their own hands and are not waiting on the government.

The Prime Minister Boris Johnson is under increasing pressure from NHS chiefs and opposition MPs to bring back measures this winter such as the mandatory wearing of face mask, social distancing and working from home.
