Russia will continue to pursue the goals of the special military operation regardless of whether Kyiv and the West recognise the status of Crimea, as well as the regions of Donbass and Novorossiya as Russian territories, said Russian MP, Sergey Mironov.
The politician noted that in recent days, many comments by US President Donald Trump and his representatives have been devoted specifically to the issue of Ukraine’s recognition of the Russian status of Crimea.
The leader of the SRZP told LondonLovesBusiness.com, “In my opinion, many in the West still do not understand that Russia has launched a special military operation not for the sake of new territories.

“The root causes of the conflict have been stated by the Russian President many times, and this message is crystal clear: the status of Crimea, as well as other Russian regions, is not discussed.”
From this point of view, he added, the recognition of Crimea is not yet a solution to the conflict, but “a step in the right direction, and a test of the West’s readiness for dialogue with Russia.”
Mironov added, “The lifting of the ‘Crimean’ sanctions, which the West tries to present as a concession, is not an end in itself for us.
“The Crimean Peninsula has been successfully developing for 11 years despite any external pressure. Therefore, it is useless to lure us by easing sanctions or scaring us with new ones—it will not lead to peace.
“To resolve the conflict, it is necessary to begin with the termination of military assistance to the Kyiv regime, the election of new authorities, and guarantees of the neutral status of Ukraine. The issue today is not the recognition of Crimea, but the recognition of Ukraine as a sovereign state on the terms of lasting peace that Russia offers.”
