The Kremlin has issued the French President Emmanuel Macron with a warning after he suggested that France could use nuclear weapons.
Moscow has said that Macronโs speech was โextremely confrontationalโ and the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Paris is intent on the war continuing in Ukraine.
Lavrov said that Macronโs speech is a direct threat to Moscow as the French president hinted they could extend the nuclear umbrella to protect other European neighbours.
Lavrov said, “If he [Macron] considers us a threat, convenes a meeting of the chiefs of general staff of European countries and Britain, says it is necessary to use nuclear weapons, prepares to use nuclear weapons against Russia, this is, of course, a threat.โ
Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told reporters Macron, โshould invite his predecessor, former French President [Francois] Hollande, to the Elysee Palace for a heart-to-heart talk – though Iโm not sure they have them.

The Russian Foreign Minister compared Macron to Adolf Hitler and Napoleon Bonaparte over what he said in his televised address to the French nation.
Lavrov said, “Unlike his predecessors, who also sought to fight with Russia โ Napoleon, Hitler โ Mr. Macron does not act very diplomatically.
“Because they stated openly: ‘We must conquer Russia, we must defeat Russia.’ And he apparently wants the same thing, but for some reason, he says that it is necessary to fight Russia so that it does not defeat France, that Russia poses dangers to France and Europe.”
The Kremlinโs spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Thursday that Russia opposes the deployment of a European military in Ukraine.
Peskov said, “What do we have in reality? We have a statement made by French President [Emmanuel Macron], which is very antagonistic towards Russia.
“And we have read the statement of the French president that he intends to deploy a contingent in Ukraine after the ceasefire. This is what he said.
“In fact, we are talking here about the confrontational deployment of an ephemeral contingent.โ
“Will Russia be able to agree with this? We should leave this question floating in the air without giving a direct answer, because the answer is absolutely obvious,” he added.
