The Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has issued a direct warning to Vladimir Putin that Poland will “shoot down flying objects” violating their airspace, including Russian fighter jets.
This could trigger direct conflict between Moscow and Warsaw should Poland or even NATO allies “shoot down” a Russian warplane.
Tusk told a press conference, “I want to be very clear. We will make a decision to shoot down flying objects without discussion when they violate our territory and fly over Poland.
“There is no room for debate here.”
Tusk added that he wants to have “100% certainty” that Warsaw’s NATO allies will also shoot down jets violating airspace, he warned that “the conflict enters a very acute phase, we will not be alone.”
This comes as there has been a serious of incidents of drones flying into Polish airspace, and last week NATO allies shot down the unmanned aerial objects.
Last week three MIG-31 fighter jets violated Estonian airspace for almost 12 minutes, Estonia is now seeking to invoke Article 4 of NATO’s treaty.
The Estonian Prime Minister, Kristen Michal wrote on X last Friday, “This morning, 3 Russian Mig-31 fighter jets entered Estonian airspace. NATO fighters responded and the Russian planes were forced to flee. Such violation is totally unacceptable.
“The Government of Estonia has decided to request NATO Article 4 consultations.”
Estonia’s Foreign Minister, Margus Tsahkna said on Friday, “Russia has violated Estonian airspace four times already this year, which in itself is unacceptable, but today’s violation, during which three fighter jets entered our airspace, is unprecedentedly brutal.
“Russia’s increasing border testing and aggression must be met with rapid reinforcement of political and economic pressure.”
