Newly released research from polling company Savanta suggests one third (29%) of the UK public thinks the Conservative Party “has a problem with Islamophobia”. This is the highest percentage of any major political party.

These findings were taken shortly before (16-18 February) current Deputy Conservative Chairman Lee Anderson’s comments on GB News about Sadiq Khan, where he claimed “Islamists control” the London Mayor.

Younger people, aged 34 and under, are more likely (36%) to think the Conservative party has an issue with Islamophobia.

Finally, one in four (25%) of the public think that Reform UK has a problem with Islamophobia, the second highest of any major party, with Nigel Farage interviewing former Conservative PM Liz Truss at Conservative Political Action Conference earlier this week.

Chris Hopkins, Political Research Director at Savanta said, “What will likely concern those in government is that this polling took place before the multiple allegations of anti-Muslim discrimination engulfed senior members of the Conservative Party.”

“With one in three of the public thinking the Conservative Party has a problem with Islamophobia, this is a serious challenge for the government.”
