NATO fighter jets were scrambled on Monday along the Russia border in response to a massive airstrike over Ukraine.
The Operation Command of the Polish armed forces said that NATO jets were scrambled as across the whole of Ukraine air raid sirens could be heard.
The Polish command wrote on X, “The steps taken are aimed at ensuring security in the regions bordering the areas at risk,” as missiles and drones rained down on Ukraine.
Ukraine said that 479 Russian drones were launched in the largest ever drone attack and 20 different missiles were also fired.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha is urging allies to put more pressure on Moscow and take “more steps to strengthen Ukraine” with Russia’s increased attacks.

On Sunday Washington said that they do not believe the Kremlin has fully responded to Ukraine’s 1 June “Operation Spiderweb” which saw more than 40 Russian aircraft destroyed or damaged including some of Vladimir Putin’s strategic nuclear callable bombers.
Ukraine had delivered a spectacular “Spiderweb” drone attack on Russia targeting four airbases obliterating $7 billion of war planes including the strategic nuclear capable bombers in an operation that “will undoubtedly be in the history books.”
A US official told Reuters that a retaliatory strike is expected over the day and it could be “asymmetrical.”
But a former British army commander Colonel Richard Kemp has warned that Putin could end up using tactical nuclear weapons in response.
Kemp wrote in the Daily Mail Russia has suffered “far more badly than the Kremlin ever believed possible.”
Colonel Kemp believes that a retaliatory tactical nuclear strike is may now be on the table as Putin is more afraid of “appearing weak.”
Kemp wrote, “There will be retaliation. The Russian president, afraid more than anything of appearing weak, cannot be seen to let such a devastating attack go unanswered.”
By using tactical nuclear weapons in response to the “Spiderweb” attacks this could force Kyiv to surrender, Kemp added, “the appalling reality is that such a calculation might be right.”
He gave four possible scenarios Putin could use, there could be a nuclear attack near to the front lines, a strike on an Ukrainian airfield which would kill NATO allies who are operating covertly.
Thirdly there could be a direct attack on a major city such as Odesa or even the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv or lastly an attack on a nuclear power station which would be far worse than Chernobyl.
Colonel Kemp wrote, “The death toll would reach hundreds of thousands.
“And even then, Putin might believe that NATO would not respond in kind. He could be insane enough to think that this would win the war for him at a stroke.”
