Lloyds Banking Group has announced they are to close 136 high street branches as the banking giant plans to digitise the business.

Between May 2025 and March 2026, the bank will close 14 Bank of Scotland, 61 Lloyds and 61 Halifax branches.

After the closures there will only be 386 Lloyd branches, Halifax will be down to 281 and the Bank of Scotland will have just 90 branches remaining.

Customers are moving away from banking in person and are using mobile apps to access services, Lloyds said.

Over the past five years transactions across the branches affected fell by an average of 48% as more customers are reverting to using apps to make payments.

A spokesperson said: “Over 20 million customers are using our apps for on-demand access to their money and customers have more choice and flexibility than ever for their day-to-day banking.

“Alongside our apps, customers can also use telephone banking, visit a community banker or use any Halifax, Lloyds or Bank of Scotland branch, giving access to many more branches.

“Customers can also do their everyday banking at over 11,000 branches of the Post Office or in a Banking Hub.”
