JD Sports has warned that trading conditions will be “volatile” for the remainder of the year as it remains uncertain what impact the US tariffs will have on the company.
The sports retailer said sales are expected to meet forecasts even though it has been a “challenging” market.
Nike trainers which are made in countries such as Vietnam have been hit with high tariffs and this could have an impact.
The sports retailer insisted it is too early to speculate what the US President’s tariffs will have on their long-term forecasts.
“We expect the trading environment in our key markets to be volatile throughout the year and we have started the year in line with our expectations,” the company told shareholders.
“We note the proposed changes to tariffs announced last week. At this stage, the outcome of these developments is uncertain.
“We are in regular dialogue with our brand partners, but it is too early to comment on the potential sector impact.”
