Over $4.2 trillion worth of mergers and acquisitions (M&A) deals were made this year, beating the $4.1 trillion record set in 2007.
The biggest deal of the year is the tie up between pharmaceutical giants Pfizer and Allergan for $160bn. The deal is the second-biggest merger ever.
The biggest merger ever was Vodafone Airtouchโs acquisition of Mannesmann for $202.8bn in 1999.
This year was the busiest summer on record, in which deals worth a total of $1.05 trillion were made, up 23.7% from Q3 2007.
