The Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has announced his plans to ban all benefits for migrants and his party will scrap indefinite leave to remain when he enters Downing Street.
Migrants will not be allowed to apply for permanent residency in the UK after five years, instead they will be forced to renew their visa every five years.
Farage said, “Welfare will end for everyone that is not a UK citizen, we will close the loopholes. Reform will ensure that welfare is for UK citizens only.
We are cleaning up the mess of Boris Johnson. The Boriswave will bankrupt us.
“Reform will deal with Boriswave, the biggest betrayal of voters’ trust in modern times.”
The Mayor for London Sadiq Khan slammed Farage’s plan to end indefinite leave to remain, he said this is “unacceptable.”
Khan wrote on X, “Thousands of Londoners have indefinite leave to remain. They have legal rights and are our friends, neighbours and colleagues, contributing hugely to our city.
“Threatening to deport people living and working here legally is unacceptable.
A Government spokesperson said, “People here illegally rightly do not get anything from our benefits system.
“Foreign nationals usually have to wait five years to claim universal credit and we’re looking at increasing this to 10 years.
We inherited a broken welfare system and spiralling benefits bill. That’s why we’re taking action and reforming the system and have seen the proportion of universal credit payments to foreign nationals fall since last July.
Farage added, “Far too many that have come don’t work, have never worked and never will work.
“The ability to bring dependents of all kinds, and when you realise that most that come are very low skilled, and on very low wages, you start to get a very, very different picture.
“In fact, you start to get a massive benefits bill.”
William Yarwood, media campaign manager of the TaxPayers’ Alliance, said: “Removing access to the benefits system and the NHS for foreign nationals is long overdue.
“The size and scope of our welfare system and universal healthcare system has made Britain a magnet for those looking to live a life funded by British taxpayers, and previous governments have designed an immigration system which welcomes them with open arms.
“If Reform UK wants to truly deliver change that people will feel, they need to be equally as radical in their proposals on the tax system, to ensure that any savings are delivered directly into the back pockets of British taxpayers.”
