The Reform UK leader is set to embarrass Sir Keir Starmer as he is due to speak to US Congress later today where he will tell Americans that the UK has “lost its way” following the arrest Graham Linehan the creator of Father Ted.
The Metropolitan Police arrested Linehan “for making jokes” on X over trans people, a Tory MP publicly stated, adding the arrest is “ridiculous.”
He was detained by five armed cops at Heathrow after he flew from Arizona after he made three tweets.
Author and campaigner JK Rowling said the arrest of the Father Ted creator is “totalitarianism” and “deplorable.”
‘What the f*** has the UK become?’ as Father Ted creator arrested by the Met ‘for making jokes’ on X
Linehan was arrested and taken to a police cell then questioned over the posts he wrote some four months ago, it has been reported that part of his bail conditions means he is not allowed the freedom of speech or expression to post on X.
Farage will tell Americans in Washington, “The Graham Linehan case is yet another example of the war on freedom in the UK.
I will discuss this, the Lucy Connolly case and the increasing role of our police in non-crime ‘hate’ incidents on Capitol Hill tomorrow.
“Free speech is under assault and I am urging the USA to be vigilant.”
Farage wrote a testimony that he has prepare ahead of Wednesday’s hearing at Congress, saying, “Free speech is a fundamentally British value.
“We would do well to remember that every signatory of the American Declaration of Independence was, after all, a British subject.”
Farage will also tell Americans about Lucy Connolly who was recently released from prison after serving 40% of a 31 month sentence over a tweet about asylum seekers in the wake of the tragic Southport murders last year.
Speaking on GB News Conservative MP James Cleverly said the arrest of Linehan appears to have been an overreaction.
Cleverly said, “It was a joke that Graham himself said was not necessarily was a funny one.
“I think it’s important we don’t overreact or police criticism. Freedom of speech is important and it’s something we value in the UK. We do have it and we do protect it.
“I have been to parts of the world as Foreign Secretary where freedom of speech is not a reality, but that is not where we are.
“This does appear, from what I can see, to be an overreaction to a rather crass joke.”
JK Rowling wrote on X, “What the f*** has the UK become? This is totalitarianism. Utterly deplorable.”
