The Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has warned of the “biggest issue” that the UK is facing after statisticians have forecast net migration will hit 340,000 from 2028 from the record high of 906,000 in 2023.
Around 10 million will be flocking to the UK over this period and this will place more pressure on the UK’s infrastructure, housing, NHS, GP appointments and schools, because nothing is being done.
The statisticians are warning that by 2032 there will be a further five million people living in the UK and the population will explode to around 72.5 million.
Farage has warned, “This is the biggest issue that faces our country.
“Why is it the most important issue in this country? Have a think about it. Even if we build the 1.5 million homes that Labour say they’ll build, that won’t even be enough to cope with the numbers coming during the course of the next four years, let alone the backlog we have.
“You want to get a GP appointment? Forget it.
“It’s going to get even more difficult. Have you noticed how clogged up the roads are? Our quality of life for all of us is diminishing directly as a result of the population explosion.
“And here’s the other thing that really matters. The steeper our population rises, through immigration, the poorer per head we get in this country.
This is a complete betrayal by our political class. And I promise you, it’s on this issue that Reform are going to win the next general election. Believe me.”
James Robards from the office for national Statistics (ONS) said, “The UK population is projected to grow by almost 5 million over the next decade.
“The driver of this growth is migration, with natural change – the difference between births and deaths – projected to be around zero. These projections are based on current and past trends, and aren’t forecasts about what may or may not happen in the future.
“Our latest projections also highlight an increasingly ageing population, with the number of people aged over 85 projected to nearly double to 3.3m by 2047.
“This is in part because of the ageing of the baby boom generation, as well as general increases in life expectancy.”
The ONS stated: “Net migration is projected to be the only source of population growth in the UK over the next 25 years.
“Over the 25-year period between mid-2022 and mid-2047 it is projected that there will be 1.1 million more deaths than births.
“During this period, it is projected that the population will grow by 8.9 million, with projected net migration totalling 10.0 million.”
Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp said, “10 million arrivals over 10 years is far too high. We need a binding legal cap on visas issued each year which is very, very substantially lower than this in order to get the numbers down and under control.
“We must also get more of the 9 million economically inactive adults in the UK into the workforce and invest more in technology and mechanisation, to end the unsustainable reliance on mass low-skilled migration.
“This projection is shocking and unacceptable. It can and must be stopped from materialising.”
Tory MP and former Home Office advisor Nick Timothy said, “Today the ONS forecasts the annual net migration will be half a million a year for the next decade.
“This must not happen. We need to cut the numbers drastically. And we need to deport the criminals and illegal immigrants who should not be here.
