Far from a fleeting fad, veganism has taken the UK by storm in recent years and according to Deliveroo, it’s not slowing down any time soon. The British food delivery company has revealed that since World Vegan Day two years ago, orders of plant-based dishes on Deliveroo have risen by a massive 330%.

According to the food delivery company, the number of restaurants catering for vegans on the platform has grown by 168% in the past year. Earlier this month, the Bristol based restaurant Oowee Vegan was crowned ‘Restaurant of the Year’ in Britain’s first-ever Deliveroo Awards, beating off competition from restaurants on the Deliveroo app across the whole of the UK.

Last year, Deliveroo named the ‘vegan dirty burger’ trend as one to look out for, this year the food delivery company have identified the growing popularity of imitation meats as the hottest new vegan category.

The most popular vegan dishes are plant vegan and chip from Honest Burgers, vegetarian Katsu curry from Wagamama’s, vegan fried chicken burger from Oowee Vegan and Greggs vegan sausage rolls.

Joe Groves at Deliveroo said, “Whether flexitarian or full-fledged vegan Deliveroo customers are embracing the growing choices of vegan foods available for delivery. No longer resigned to just salads Brits are loving imitation meats, vegan-friendly alternatives and the infamous dirty vegan dishes”.
