Riders hold demo outside firm’s Soho HQ

Hundreds of Deliveroo workers took to the streets of central London to protest against changes that could lower their wages.

Riders blockaded the delivery firm’s HQ in Soho yesterday while some decided to not work for the day.

The protest is over Deliveroo’s plans to £3.75 per delivery reduced from £7 an hour, plus £1 per delivery.

Riders are demanding £8 an hour with £1 per delivery, as well as tips and the cost of fuel for moped riders.

The London-based startup told Techcrunch:”We started trialling a new payment model in London this week, which was designed to enhance flexibility and based on extensive rider feedback. Speaking with our riders and hearing their concerns on the new model is our top priority right now.

“We’re committed to an open conversation with our rider community as the situation evolves, so we can continue to improve our payment model and delivery experience.”
