Aldi has announced that over 28,000 workers will receive another pay rise for the second time in two months.

They said on Friday that staff will be paid ยฃ13.02 from 1 September and depending on length of service some workers could receive ยฃ13.95.

Those living in London will see their pay rise from ยฃ14.05 to ยฃ14.35 per hour and depending on the length of service some will be paid ยฃ14.66 an hour.

A spokesperson for Aldi said: โ€œFrom Monday 1st September, over 28,000 Aldi hourly paid store colleagues across the UK will receive a bigger than expected pay rise as the supermarket reinforces its pledge to never be beaten on pay.

โ€œIn July, Aldi said it was increasing pay for Store Assistants from ยฃ12.75 an hour to ยฃ13.00 from 1st September, to become the first supermarket to offer this minimum rate.

โ€œIt has now made a further increase to ยฃ13.02 an hour to maintain its position as sector leader. The rate increases to ยฃ13.95 with length of service.โ€

Giles Hurley, Chief Executive Officer of Aldi UK and Ireland, said: โ€œOur colleagues are at the heart of our success, and weโ€™re committed to ensuring they are fully rewarded for the outstanding work they do. This higher than planned pay rise is part of our promise to never be beaten on pay.โ€
