Air India crash: Here’s what we know about the pilot and co-pilot

A London-bound Air India plane carrying 242 people crashed shortly after take-off in Ahmedabad, western India.

The local police chiefย  said that 204 bodies have been recovered, all people aboard the plane are expected to have died and some on the ground are known to be badly injured too.

The pilot of the aircraft wasย Captain Sumeet Sabharwal, a Line Training Captain with 8,200 hours of flying experience.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation in India said he was accompanied by the First Officer, Clive Kunder, who was assisting him. Kunder had 1,100 hours of flight experience.

The two pilots were at the controls when the aircraft, carrying 232 passengersโ€”including two infantsโ€”and 12 crew members, went down approximately five minutes into the flight.

Senior cabin crew included Shradha Dhavan and Aparna Mahadik, according to media reports. Other staff on duty include Saineeta Chakravarti, Nganthoi Kongbrailatpam Sharma, Deepak Pathak, Maithili Patil, Irfan Shaikh, Lamnunthem Singson, Roshni Songhare Rajendra, and Manisha Thapa.
