41 gun salute fired to mark Queen’s 68 years on the throne

On Thursday soldiers from the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery, in full dress uniform rode from Wellington Barracks to Green Park to give a 41-gun salute to mark the Queen’s 68th anniversary on the throne.

Seventy-one of the King’s Troop horses pulled six first world war 13 pounder field guns to the north side of the park to fire the gun salute.

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is two years away  from her platinum jubilee which will mark 70-years on the throne.

In September 2015 Queen Elizabeth II became the country’s longest reigning monarch since Queen Victoria.
