UK slaps ‘warmonger’ Putin with 100 new sanctions and EU target’s Russia’s shadow fleet

20th May 25 1:02 pm

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office has announced the government has hit Vladimir Putin with 100 new sanctions amid his ongoing war on Ukraine.

The government’s measures are designed at “ramping up pressure” on Moscow’s energy exports, military and information war, the FCDO said.

The new sanctions will directly target supply chains of weaponry such as the Iskander missile systems which are being used to target civilian areas in what has been described as a “callous disregard for life.”

Foreign Secretary David Lammy said Putin’s latest strikes on Ukraine shows “his true colours as a warmonger.”

“We urge him to agree a full, unconditional ceasefire right away so there can be talks on a just and lasting peace,” Lammy added.

“In addition, today’s measures will strike at the heart of Putin’s efforts to get around our sanctions and help block his failing attempts to reconnect to the international economy.”

Lammy said, “We have been clear that delaying peace efforts will only redouble our resolve to help Ukraine to defend itself and use our sanctions to restrict Putin’s war machine.”

The EU’s top diplomat Kaja Kallas announced on Tuesday the 17th package of sanctions on Russia, including measures on almost 200 shadow fleet vessels.

Kallas wrote on X, “New measures also address hybrid threats and human rights. More sanctions on Russia are in the works.”

The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that new “strong EU sanctions package” is underway for Russia’s continued aggression on Ukraine.
