UK records almost 3,000 coronavirus cases in 24 hours

Officials figures show that 2,988 new cases of coronavirus have been recorded in 24-hours, which is the highest number since 23 May.

On the 23 May there were 2,959 cases and on Saturday the UK recorded 1,813 infections. More people are being tested and the confirmed cases are heavily dependent on this, along with who is being tested.

Since the start of the pandemic testing has increased significantly, whilst community testing has also been expanded.

There were only two coronavirus related deaths recorded in the UK.
