Trump rules out Kyiv joining NATO and having Crimea to please Putin

18th Aug 25 12:04 pm

The US President has ruled out Ukraine demands of joining NATO and having their territory of Crimea back in a peace agreement to please Vladimir Putin.

The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that he will not give up Crimea to the Russian Federation which has been occupied since 2014.

Donald Trump who has been friends with Putin for decades has insisted there will be โ€œno going into Nato by Ukraine,โ€ which comes as the Russian dictator has insisted that Kyiv cannot be allowed to join the alliance.

Trump posted on his Truth Social, “President Zelensky of Ukraine can end the war with Russia almost immediately, if he wants to, or he can continue to fight.

“Remember how it started. No getting back Obama given Crimea (12 years ago, without a shot being fired!), and NO GOING INTO NATO BY UKRAINE.

“Some things never change!!!”

President Zelensky arrived in Washington on Sunday evening for peace talks with Trump, the US President is backing Putinโ€™s demands and he is once again dictating to the Ukrainian leader.

President Zelensky has rightly said any deal with Putin must stop Russia using concessions as a โ€œspringboardโ€ for more attacks on Ukraine.

President Zelensky said, “We all equally want to end this war quickly and reliably. And peace must be lasting.

โ€œNot like it was years ago, when Ukraine was forced to give up Crimea and part of our East โ€” part of Donbas โ€” and Putin simply used it as a staging ground for a new attack.

โ€œOr when Ukraine was given supposed ‘security guarantees’ in 1994, but they did not work.โ€

“I am confident we will defend Ukraine, effectively guarantee its security, and our people will always be grateful to President Trump, to everyone in America, to every partner, for the support and invaluable assistance,” he added.

Trump and Zelensky are due to meet later on Monday for peace talks in the Oval Office in the White House, where the US President and the Vice President JD Vance berated the Ukrainian leader.
