Maxar technologies who are a US aerospace company received an “administrative request” to disconnect Ukraine from accessing their satellite images, Ukrainian media outlet Militarnyi reported on Friday.

This will massively affect Ukrainian troops on the battlefield as the high-resolution satellite images has been relied on to make key strategic plans and used to track Russian troop movement across Ukraine and the occupied territories.

Maxar said on Friday, “The official justification that users received from the Maxar administration was ‘upon administrative request.’

“In fact, the shutdown was a consequence of the United States government’s ban on providing intelligence data to Ukraine.

“That is, the administration of President Donald Trump, through the Department of State, banned the provision of satellite data for Ukraine to American companies and commercial services.”

Ukraine‘s cyber community Cyberboroshno has reported that free access to satellite images has been cut off.

“According to our information, at least private companies can buy already ordered (satellite) images through the provider,” Cyberboroshno wrote on Telegram.
