Prices of the UKโ€™s most popular used electric and hybrid vehicles fell by a tenth (-10%) in the first quarter of 2025 compared with the same period last year, according to the latest AA Used Car Index.

The average cost of the top 20 most searched for EVs and hybrids on AA Cars dropped from ยฃ20,956 to ยฃ18,973 over the past year, with prices falling 6% since the final quarter of 2024.

The Toyota Yaris (hybrid) โ€“ the most searched for EV or hybrid โ€“ dropped in price by 14% over the last 12 months, while the Toyota Prius has seen the biggest price fall (-42%).

This was followed by the Nissan Leaf (-25%), Renault Zoe (-25%) and Tesla Model 3 (-22%). Only two of the top 20 most popular used EVs and hybrids rose in value over the past year โ€” the Volkswagen Golf (7%) and Kia Sportage (2%).

Prices for the most sought-after petrol and diesel cars have remained more stable over the past year, falling by just 3% to ยฃ15,428 in the first quarter of 2025.

Compared with the previous quarter โ€” October, November and December โ€” average prices have seen a slight decrease of 2%, down from ยฃ15,708.

The Nissan Qashquai โ€“ the most popular used car at the start of 2025 โ€“ has fallen 3% in value over the past year, while the Volvo XC40 (-19%), Ford Transit (-18%) and Fiat 500 (-13%) have seen the biggest drops.

James Hosking, Director ofย AA Cars, said, โ€œThe most popular second-hand EVs and hybrids are becoming more and more affordable for the average motorist.

โ€œThe supply of used electric and hybrid vehicles continues to outpace demand, which is why weโ€™ve seeing such significant price falls. Buyers are saving over ยฃ2,000 compared with this time last year, even though the average age of used EVs and hybrids on the site has fallen slightly during this period.

โ€œWe may soon reach a point where the most popular second-hand EVs and hybrids are cheaper than their petrol and diesel counterparts.

โ€œThe divergence in prices is good news for drivers supporting the transition to greener vehicles and should help generate increased demand among consumers.

โ€œIf you are in the market for a used EV or hybrid, shop around to find the best deals and ensure youโ€™re getting value for money. As with any vehicle, itโ€™s always best to test drive the car and have it inspected by an independent and trusted professional before buying it to identify any hidden issues or faults.โ€
