Vladimir Putin has issued a statement claiming that Ukraine’s Kursk incursion which started on 6 August 2024 had “completely failed.”

Putin claims that all of Ukraine’s forces were pushed out of the Kursk region, despite Kyiv’s units are still “in certain areas.”

Putin bragged on Saturday, “The complete defeat of our enemy along Kursk’s border region creates the right conditions for further successes for our troops and in other important areas of the front.”

The Ukrainian General Staff hit back saying that Russia’s claims “are not true.”

The General Staff stated, “The statements of representatives of the high command of the aggressor country about the alleged end of hostilities in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation are not true.”

They added, “The defensive operation of the Ukrainian Defence Forces in certain areas in the Kursk region continues.

“The operational situation is difficult, but our units continue to hold designated positions and carry out assigned tasks, while inflicting effective fire damage on the enemy with all types of weapons, including using active defence tactics.”

The General Staff said that Russian forces lost more than 62,400 soldiers and of this number, 25,200 was “irreversible” and there was a total of 36,200 Russian Army troops injured.

They said, “Another 983 soldiers of the (Russian) army were taken prisoner. As a result, exchanges took place, which allowed hundreds of our soldiers to return home from Russian captivity.”

They added, “The total losses of the North Korean army on the Kursk direction amount to more than 4,500 killed and wounded.”
