Pressure mounts on the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson and the Conservatives during difficult week as Lib Dems become odds-on favourites at 5/6 to win North Shropshire by-election.

Latest betting also suggests there’s now more chance than ever that Boris Johnson steps down this year at 11/1, with even shorter odds of evens offered for the PM to resign in 2022.

The Chancellor Rishi Sunak favourite to be next Tory leader, but Liz Truss best-backed candidate as her odds slashed from 5/1 to 7/2.

Latest General Election odds also indicate public support for Conservatives waning as odds of a Tory majority lengthen from 6/4 to 13/8.

Betfair Spokesperson, Sam Rosbottom said, “Betfair Exchange’s political punters have spoken and they now believe the pressure on the PM will ratchet up again as the previously safe North Shropshire seat becomes odds-on at 5/6 to turn yellow in next weeks’ by-election.

“In the past week, the odds for Boris Johnson to quit this year have tumbled from 149/1 to just 11/1 and there’s now more chance of the PM stepping down before 2021 is out than ever.

“Speculation as to who will replace Johnson is increasing and whilst Rishi Sunak remains the favourite, the most popular candidate is Liz Truss, as her odds of becoming the next Conservative leader are slashed from 5/1 to 7/2.”
