Just hours after Carlos Ghosn was arrested over allegations of financial misconduct, it is now reported that Nissan board will meet on Thursday to sack the chairman, Nissan President and CEO Hiroto Saikawa has confirmed.

โ€œI will call a board meeting to make a proposal to remove him from the position of chairmanship and approve it,โ€ Saikawa told a news conference.

Ghosn, who is the CEO of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance, has been accused of “numerous and significant” acts of business misconduct.

“In response to the arrest of Ghosn, and since the alleged misconduct is related to a corporate governance and compliance issue, it is to be proposed to the Board of Directors to promptly remove Ghosn,” Mitsubishi stated.

French carmaker Renault says its board will meet “very shortly” after its chief executive and chairman Carlos Ghosn was arrested for financial misconduct at Nissan, where he is also chairman.

Philippe Lagayette, an independent board member at Renault, said in a statement the company was awaiting “precise information” from Ghosn about the charges against him.
