Nationwide has announced that 12 million of their customers will each be given £50 as a “big thanks you” for supporting their takeover of Virgin Money in 2024 for £2.8 billion.

This will cost Nationwide more than £600 million and customers will receive the £50 from 9 April.

Nationwide members that had savings or a current account or even a mortgage from the end of September 2024 will receive the payout.

“Nationwide became even stronger when it bought Virgin Money and we are already improving services for its customers,” chief executive Debbie Crosbie said.

“The Big Nationwide Thank You recognises the role our members played in building the financial strength that made the deal possible.”
