According to a new report Whitehall has been urged to axe more than 80,000 jobs to save taxpayers £5 billion.

Senior Whitehall officials are backing an efficiency plan to cut communication workers by 70% and HR departments could be halved.

Former Home Office director and report author Stephen Webb said, “The proposals in the paper don’t require scaling back services, but should allow the system to work better.

“The system will be cheaper and more effective.”
