Lithuania ready to send troops to Ukraine

21st Mar 25 4:39 pm

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda has said on Friday they are ready to send troops to Ukraine in a post-ceasefire mission in Ukraine, Bloomberg reported.

A European peacekeeping force is now in its operational phase and military planners will now identify roles different countries could play inside Ukraine.

Speaking to Bloomberg Television Nauseda said, “My country is ready to provide the necessary support.โ€

“We are talking about very concrete numbers of our troops, but there should be a commitment from all countries in this coalition to provide this support,” Nauseda added.

He praised the US President Donald Trumpโ€™s โ€œfrank intentionsโ€ to end Russiaโ€™s war in Ukraine, adding that Vladimir Putin only wants a limited ceasefire.

“So far, Russia is imitating the negotiations, talking about a possible peace and possible ceasefire, but they are not even ready to keep the ceasefire as promised not to attack, not to strike critical infrastructure,” Nauseda said.

The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the “Coalition of the Willing” summit will be held next Thursday.

Leaders will meet to discuss the strategy of security guarantees for Ukraine after the end of the war.

Zelensky said during a joint press conference with Czech President Petr Pavel on Friday, “It will be an important summit. We can call it that, the ‘Coalition of the Willing.’ Indeed, we will talk about the strategy of security guarantees for Ukraine after the end of the war.

โ€œAnd not about allowing a second wave, but one could say a third wave of occupation by the Russian Federation, their aggressive actions. We will talk about the part, about the contingent.โ€

He added, the “Coalition of the Willing” summit will discuss support for the Ukrainian army.

He said, “Where, how many, who is ready to be in the ‘Coalition of the Willing’ and who is not yet ready.

โ€œIt is understandable โ€“ each country has its own different objective or subjective reasons for this. And after our meeting among the countries that are ready or who are not yet sure, in any case there will be a serious high-level representation of the countries, I would like us to come out with some specifics.โ€
